FUNDING AVAILABLE FOR NEW MEMBERS
We have some great news in that we have been awarded some funding from Croydon Voluntary Action (CVA) in partnership with Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (Whitgift and Centrale).
This funding has to be accounted for by the end of May 2025 so time is short - but the opportunity is great!
The funding is to help people who would like to join Downland but feel that their budgets could not stretch to our fees. This can automatically include any young person who is aged between 16 and 25.
If you are on a tight budget - or you know anyone this might apply to please do ask them to get in touch..
We would love to have new voices as we prepare for our Summer Concert as we team up with the Euphonix Choir in Kingston to sing a variety of music including a West Side Story medley; three pieces by Eva Cassidy; Willcox "SIng Africa" and Vaughan Williams Five English Folk Songs. We are going to have a ball as we sing in TWO concerts - one in Kingston and one here in Coulsdon. It will be a great introduction for new voices!

Great to see record breaking numbers at our "Come Sing the Beatles" workshop yesterday!
With around 100 singers we made a grand sound!
Thank you to everyone who came and those who worked behind the scenes to make it happen!

I can't believe that our Autumn Concert is just around the corner!
As we look forward to our celebration of the life and works of Henry Purcell all are focused on their part in producing a quality musical experience. We are all pouring over our scores aiming to be note perfect, Tom as ever will be giving us all our cues (so long as we can take our noses out of our scores! The lighting is being prepared, the church will be as perfect as ever and I'm really looking forward to meeting our amazing soloists.
Rejoice in the Lord Alway and the Funeral Sentences are followed off by Dido and Aeneas complete with witches and other characters - regal and scary in turn! It promises to be a musical feast!
All are welcome and tickets are on sale in advance on our website payable by card on-line.
We all hope you can join us and look forward to seeing you there!

Once beyond our Autumn Concert we focus our efforts entirely on Christmas.
Our Christmas Cracker is in partnership with Keston Primary School and we would love for you to join us.

- Downland at Coulsdon Yuletide - come sing festive favourites!

This year we are delighted to be involved once again in the community.
7th December: Coulsdon Yuletide
We are delighted to be singing at the Coulsdon Yuletide at 2:30pm on Saturday 7th December in the centre of Coulsdon.
We would love it if you could come and celebrate with us as we lead the singing of festive carols and other favourites.
Bring family and friends to this celbration of the festive season - there will be many stalls and childrens rides as well as other fabulous entertainment on the central stage.
Do come and say hello! We look forward to seeing you there!
With a bit of luck it will be warmer and drier than our foray at the Old Coulsdon Fayre in July!

- Festive favourites with Coulsdon College at Toldene Court

At Downland we love to collaborate and this year we have been invited to work with Coulsdon College, just around the corner from us.
We are supporting their Christmas Carol Concert joining with them to sing festive favourites for the residents of Toldene Court on Friday 20th November.
With a mix of traditional carols and more modern favourites we will have the residents rocking down memory lane!
I will update you on how we get on!

We are starting the new singing year refreshed after the summer holidays.
But the break in singing has been used to great effect with a new website, a new App for Members making our learning resources more easily accessible to Members and a new Banner Stand to brighten up our image and support us as we seek to grow our membership.
As a community choir we are open to everyone or every age and ability.
If you love singing, Downland is for you! We have no auditions.
We are looking for opportunities to grow our membership and last week we had a stand at Coulsdon College, talking to both students and staff about joining us. We were made very welcome and will be looking to grow our relationship throughout the year.
If you know anyone who loves to sing, they are very welcome to come along and visit us!
